Golden Milk is a wonderful evening beverage and the benefits are extraordinary.

The main ingredient in this recipe is turmeric, which contains curcumin, the active polyphenol which exhibits 600 potential health benefits.

If you want to be totally impressed, here is a list of a few of the benefits of turmeric:

  • Anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, antiseptic,analgesic
  • Boosts immunity
  • Anti-carcinogenic
  • Helps maintain cholesterol levels
  • Promotes digestive health
  • Helps detoxify the liver
  • Regulates metabolism and weight management
  • Good for high blood pressure
  • Memory and brain function
  • Various skin conditions
  • Neurological disorders
  • Lowers Triglycerides

Something I did not know:  adding black pepper to turmeric enhances curcumin’s bioavailability by 1,000 times, due to black pepper’s hot property called piperine.   By by mixing turmeric and black pepper together, you increase your body’s absorption of the turmeric by 2000%!  Who knew?

Golden Milk

Step 1: Turmeric Paste

1/4 cup of turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon of ground pepper
1/2 cup of filtered water

Mix all ingredients in a small a small sauce pan and mix well. Turn the heat to medium high and stir constantly until the mixture is a thick paste. This does not take long so don’t walk away from the pan.

Let this mixture cool and then keep it in a small jar in the fridge.  Stir before using again.  It settles.

Step 2: Golden Milk

1 cup of almond milk (or hemp or coconut)
1 teaspoon coconut oil
1/4 teaspoon or more of turmeric paste  (I have used a teaspoon with no trouble)
Honey

Combine all the ingredients, except honey in a saucepan. Turn the heat to medium. While heating make sure to stir constantly and do not allow the mixture to boil. Add honey to taste.

  • My sister introduced me to golden milk a while back. I’m so happy you reminded me of it! We’ve been trying to remember to add more turmeric to our daily diets. This would be a great way to do it. I’ve just added “lots of turmeric” to my shopping list! Thanks Terri 🙂
