An Evening of Mystical Poetry

I’m so happy to let you know that I’ll be partnering with local poet and photographer Tracey Schmidt to present an evening of Mystical Poetry. Tracey and I were introduced to each other by Jean Cassidy of www.SheVille.org. She thought we might enjoy working together — and we do!

Date and Time: September 20, Friday evening, 7:30 to 9:30 pm. $15 love offering.

Location: Unity of The Blue Ridge, 2041 Fanning Bridge Rd, Mills River, NC 28759. 828-891-8700. unity@unitync.net.

Tracey will read from Rumi, Hafiz, and Mary Oliver, as well as her own poetry, with musical accompaniment. I will read from my book “100 Words: Small Servings of Whimsy and Wisdom” as well as from newer, unpublished work.

A portion of the proceeds will support Tracey’s educational, fine art traveling museum exhibit called “The Awakening of Turtle Island: Portraits of Native Americans.” New museum guidelines require her to update the educational text panels. She is also adding to the exhibit, and photographing some of the subjects that she photographed 20 years ago.

Tracey has toured internationally with both teaching and reciting poetry. Her museum exhibit won the Regional Designation Award in the Humanities when it was created, and was part of the Cultural Olympiad in Atlanta in 1996. Her book of poetry, I Have Fallen in Love with the World” is in its second printing. She recorded her poetry with members of the phenomenal local group Free Planet Radio in a CD called “Returning Home.” She is teaching an Artist’s Way class here in Asheville beginning in September. Each poem in my book “100 Words: Small Servings of Whimsy and Wisdom” is one hundred words long, on subjects such as creativity, relationships, grief, nature and change. As you might know, I’m a coach, speaker, and consultant. I work with individuals and couples to help them create happier, more satisfying relationships with those they love. Tracey: says, “One of the things I love most about Rumi, Hafiz and Mary Oliver (all of whom I will be reciting, along with my own work), is that they create a spaciousness that allows the reader to enter the poem where they are. There is room for everyone to find themselves there.”

Tracey and I invite you to please pass the word, invite your friends, and join us for this beautiful evening.
